Well, I’ve been sick.  Poor me.  But NO.  It’s been a revelation.  When you have nothing better to do that lay around, and get awfully sick of feeling sorry for yourself there has to be a plan B.

This came as a welcome break from the work I needed to make and I found myself thinking about the processes I use when making paintings and printmaking and how I could re-jig or combine them and maybe use these elements differently to make new work.  You see, I fully understand how to make the work I already make and far be it for me to assume that there’s nothing left to learn there, because there always is.  But, here’s the beauty of it.  Remove yourself from the process and imagine you were making completely new things with new eyes and new hands and a new heart and point of view.

Before too long I had my first epiphany, followed quite promptly by the next and then the next and with each new idea came an excitement and enthusiasm which far outpaced my regular excitement and enthusiasm and I feel that new doors of opportunity have been opened.

Suffice it to say that sometimes a change is as good as a holiday, or a holiday give you the opportunity to make a change.  Who cares which it is, the important thing is we don’t get stuck in the same old same old rut.  Give yourself the chance to grow and experience new and exciting materials and technique whenever you can, that way your work will stay fresh, current and relevant.  You don’t have to give up what you’ve always done, just expand on it.  The potential is endless and I’m super keen to begin trying out these new ideas.  Some will work, others will not, but it’s all in the journey right, not the destination.

Keep Creating.  🙂
